Getting to and from Royal Arsenal
The Royal Arsenal is incredibly well connected by transport links across London, the country and further afield across Europe. Whether you need a plane, train, tram, bus, boat, cycle, car, or tube...it's all here.
Trains, Tubes and Buses
Walk out of the development and cross over Plumstead Road into Woolwich Town Centre and you have access to numerous buses and the mainline rail station on Woolwich New Road. The trains from there take you to London Bridge in 22 mins, Cannon Street direct in 26 mins and Charing Cross direct in 37 mins. The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) connects you to Canary Wharf, Bank and Stratford. Get off the DLR at Canning Town and you can jump on the Jubilee Line to Stratford or travel through the centre of London.
If you are waiting for a bus - text your bus stop code to 87287 and it will let you know when it's going to arrive.
Thames Clipper Riverboat
For a calm and relaxing journey west as far as Putney, why not travel by boat with the Thames Clippers. Royal Arsenal has its own pier at the bottom of No. 1 Street. Don't forget to show your Oyster Card when buying tickets as you will receive a discount off many of the fares.
Planes
You don't have to fly yourself out of the Royal Arsenal, not unless you want to, as there are plenty of options to get someone to do it for you. London has four airports which service the north, east, south and west (roughly):
Stanstead, London City, Gatwick and Heathrow.
From Woolwich to London City it's only two stops away and takes 6 mins!
Cycling
We don't have "Boris Bikes" in Royal Arsenal or Woolwich but there are plenty of places to get out on your bike if you have one. You can cycle all the way to Greenwich by the river (apart from a small section just before the Thames Barrier). In the opposite direction you can get to Erith with uninterrupted paths along the river.
Enter the route you want in the route planner at the top of the page or order any of 14 different FREE cycle maps from TFL.
Cars
If you are driving and you just want to get over the river, you have four options this side of Tower Bridge. There is the Rotherhithe tunnel; Blackwall tunnel; the Woolwich Ferry or Dartford Bridge (this is a toll bridge). Before you set out check out live travel news - especially if you are heading towards the Blackwall tunnel!
Wheel-less?
If you don't have wheels and you need a car for the day or you need a van to move stuff, RA residents benefit from streetcars. Just register with Zipcar, pay for what you need and off you go. Cars are parked on Duke of Wellington Avenue and Cadogan Road.
